Welcome to the World of Astrid Knight, an Author of Modern Queer Fantasy Filled with Real Humanity
Astrid Knight is a fantasy writer who centers queerness, mental health, trauma, and neurodivergence — so you can feel seen in your favorite stories.
Hi there, I’m Astrid Knight (they/he). I’m a fantasy author invested in mental health, neurodivergence, trauma, queerness, and how those themes intersect – aka I write books about sad gay nerds.
I believe all marginalized folks deserve to be seen, heard, and uplifted, including in fiction.
Yes, I’m dreaming up fantasy worlds on the daily, but those stories are even more magical – and even more real – when they center a queer and neurodivergent perspective.
No matter which of my books you pick up, here are some things you can expect to find:
Incorporating real world issues into fantasy fiction
A balance of intense emotion and lighthearted fun
An exploration of fantasy tropes, making them accessible and modern
A strong voice and tone
Making every character GAY. AS. HELL.
“Astrid Knight absolutely slays in this breakout debut. With endearing characters, relatable moments, and heavy doses of nerdom, Perception Check is an unputdownable read.”
Jayme Bean, author of Untouched
Want to know more about me? Awesome, you’re in the right place!
I’m a queer trans person from Michigan, who has always had a love of storytelling. As a kid, I was heavily involved in theatre and started writing “novels” when I was very young. My first “book” was published on my family’s home printer when I was eleven years old. It was 20 pages long, 14-point font, and double spaced. I even got one of my friends to illustrate it. It was extremely cool.
After graduating with my degree in Writing and Theatre, I continued to cultivate a love for telling stories. These days, I’m more behind the scenes, rather than a stage performer, but my love of words and spreading joy and hope through authentic storytelling is still going strong.
When I’m not writing, I’m living a super queer nerdy life, just like you.
I’m a dog lover and have two dogs, a 12 year old dachshund named Oswin (after a one-off Doctor Who character) and a 7 year old rescue mutt named Bucky (after Captain America’s right hand man). Again, I’m a nerd.
When I’m not writing, I’m crocheting, getting accosted for pets by my dogs, or gushing about gay pirates.
Huge brag moment… I once made Carrie Fisher laugh.
